Start with the licence and experience requirements in these dirt bike tour FAQs. A motorcycle licence is essential, and your off-road ability helps determine which trip is right for you.
Do I need a motorcycle licence?
Our guided tours require at least a current learner motorcycle licence. Tell us your licence type and riding experience before booking if you are unsure about suitability.
Can I join if I have never ridden dirt?
Our Intro to Dirt Bike Riding day is the starting point for road riders, returning riders and learners building confidence on dirt. It includes guidance through Cardo helmet comms. You still need at least a learner motorcycle licence.
Are all tours suitable for beginners?
No. Sundown, Cape York and the Victorian High Country suit intermediate–advanced off-road riders. Their technical sections, remote terrain and longer riding days need more experience. Contact Jonno before choosing one if you are unsure.

Do I need my own bike?
Our advertised guided tour packages supply a Suzuki DR-Z400E. Cape York is offered as a bike-included package; there is no BYO option on that tour. Ask us about any different arrangement before booking another experience.
What is included in a guided tour?
Bike, fuel, guide and listed riding gear are included. Camping equipment and meals vary by tour. The tour page explains the exact package; do not assume every meal or personal item is included.
Is a sleeping bag supplied?
It depends on the trip. Sundown supplies a sleeping bag with its camping setup. On the Victorian High Country tour, bring your own sleeping bag suitable for cold alpine nights. Check the packing details for your departure.
Can I keep the supplied equipment?
Most equipment is loaned for the trip and returned afterwards. Cape York and High Country packages specify an Alrock jersey to keep. Follow the inclusions on your selected tour rather than assuming all clothing is a souvenir.
Are meals included?
Meal inclusions differ. Cape York includes five On Track Meals and the High Country includes six. Budget for other meals and drinks. Intro to Dirt normally stops near Queen Mary Falls for a cafe lunch when open; you may also bring your own food.
What should I pack?
Bring your motorcycle licence, physical credit card for the security hold, hydration pack, medication, personal essentials and clothing suited to the weather. Use the trip-specific packing list, especially for cold High Country conditions.

How do I book?
Choose your tour and use its Check Available Dates button to open WeTravel. Select an available departure there and review the package and terms before payment.
Are payment plans available?
Cape York uses a 25% deposit, with the remaining balance due 30 days before departure. Payment plans can be arranged through WeTravel after the deposit is paid. Check the payment schedule for other trips. Afterpay is not available.
Why is there a security hold?
A $2,000 temporary security hold is required on a physical credit card for the bike. It is released after the motorcycle is returned in good condition, subject to the applicable terms. The hold is not a cap on damage liability.
What happens in bad weather?
Routes, crossings, stops and timing may change with weather, access, track conditions and group ability. Contact us about any departure concerns and read the cancellation and change terms for your booking.

Can you help our group choose a ride?
Yes. Tell us your group size, preferred dates and the least experienced rider’s background. We can discuss suitability and available options before anyone books.
